One of the three most popular trails in the UK, Hadrian’s Wall National Trail provides a quality challenge for runners, yet is still suitable for the less-experienced. Well-waymarked and easy to follow, there’s always something fascinating to look at whenever you need to stop for a breather.
The route follows the line of World Heritage-listed Hadrian’s Wall wherever possible, including big views, big climbs and fascinating historical ruins. Long sections of the Wall, built in AD 122 by Emperor Hadrian, remain intact. You can run right beside them, racing in the footsteps of Roman legionaries.

Hadrian's Wall Short Running Break takes in the most important archaeological dig sites, as well as plenty of excellent scenery, effectively packing this walk with countless discoveries within just a few days. As well as the Roman forts of Chesters, Housesteads, Vindolanda and Birdoswald, this section of the trail also boasts a range of Saxon burial cists, medieval shielings and even the Temple of Mithras, giving keen historians plenty to discover along the way.
