About the trail

Our Coast to Coast trail running holidays do what they say on the tin: they offer the opportunity to cross the breadth of England on foot, from one coast to the other. You'll triumph over a slew of challenging trails through the Lake District, the fell-running capital of England, before taking off across the Yorkshire Dales, Pennines and the wilderness of the North York Moors.

This year, this famous trail is at long last on its way to recognition as a National Trail. The work is still in progress, to be completed in 2025, but anyone running the Coast to Coast will notice brand new waymarkers going in, complete with the National Trail acorn. It’s an exciting time for one of the UK’s best-loved routes!

Coast to Coast Run - West Section

Short on time but feeling bold? The western half of the Coast to Coast route tackles its most challenging section, with steep climbs to absolutely gorgeous views. You’ll be rewarded at the bottom of the slopes, too: the beautiful and lively Lake District towns of Rosthwaite, Grasmere and Patterdale are the ideal places for a quick tea and cake or a relaxing overnight stay.

From the shore of the Irish Sea at St Bees, the trail crosses Cumbria and brings you out to Kirkby Stephen on the very edge of the Yorkshire Dales. With great views of Pillar and Great Gable through Ennerdale, and a tranquil run along the banks of Haweswater, there are plenty of calmer stretches to catch your breath and appreciate all the breath-taking climbs you’ve overcome.

This route can be run in the opposite direction upon request. Please contact us and we will be happy to assist you.
